Sai Baba: Riding His White Horse

"I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. 'He will rule them with an iron scepter.' He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:

'KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.'"

Sound familiar? Yes, that's from the Bible, Revelations 19.11-16 to be precise. This is a staple of Sai literature by way of their incorrigible attempts to prove that Sathya Sai Baba is the Messiah and his coming was foretold in ancient scriptures. Without complicating the present issue, we may also observe that such claims of messiahship extend to other religions besides Christianity.

I say incorrigible because history bears witness to the justification of the vilest acts that were legitimised by the twisting of scripture. Irregardless of the intent of Revelations 19, Sai devotees interpret all of the scriptural qualities as being present in the person of Sai Baba, not least the fact that the Baba himself is responsible for this. Let us take a look at his own words of Christmas Day, 1972:

"There is one point that I cannot but bring to your special notice today. At the moment when Jesus was merging in the Supreme Principle of Divinity, He communicated some news to his followers ... The statement itself has been manipulated and tangled into a conundrum. The statement of Christ is simple: 'He who sent me among you will come again!' and he pointed to a Lamb. The Lamb is merely a symbol, a sign. It stands for the Voice - Ba-Ba; the announcement was the Advent of Baba. 'His Name will be Truth,' Christ declared. Sathya means Truth. 'He will wear a robe of red, a bloodred robe.' (Here Baba pointed to the robe He was wearing!). 'He will be short, with a crown (of hair). The Lamb is the sign and symbol of Love.' Christ did not declare that he will come again. He said, 'He who made me will come again.' That Ba-ba is this Baba and Sai, the short, curly-hair-crowned red-robed Baba, is come."

No, there is no use rubbing your eyes in disbelief, he really did say that in front of a packed crowd of Westerners on Christmas Day. Talk about seizing opportunities, just check out the way that he is not content with declaring himself the Messiah (Christ come again) but insists upon being recognised as GOD, He who supposedly sent Christ into the world.

One thing that I absolutely love about Sai devotees is the way they manage to take everything completely out of context while keeping a straight face. By this I am referring to the 'Rider of the White Horse' mentioned in Revelations; Verses 19-21 speak of both a 'beast' and a 'false prophet' who will war with the horse's rider (ostensibly the Messiah) and be defeated by him by a sword that emerges out of the rider's mouth. All's fair in love and weirdness as some may say, but who are these beasts and false prophets running around all over the place? For that we must turn to Revelations 13 (of course, which other number would work?) to find out all about the Beast and the infamous '666' number. Yup, it's our old friend the Anti-Christ.

Now if Sai Baba is identifying himself as the rider on the white horse mentioned in the Bible, what does it mean to suggest that he will be responsible for the killing of the Anti-Christ? What does it say about Sai Baba's leanings towards Fundamentalist Christianity? What does it say about Sai Baa-baa's apparent endorsement of mythical and devilish figures? What does it say about Sai BlahBlah's infinite capacity to talk crap?

In any case, isn't it ironic how Sai Baba is viewed in some quarters as being the Anti-Christ incarnate? With all his relentless self-flattery about being the very same God who sent Jesus Christ, he can't even get his story straight about that. Constant confusion is par for the course with this Baba, and it was one of the reasons why I felt unable to continue following him in good conscience. Sai Baba could perhaps redeem himself and return to his former glory as Superbaba again if only he made the effort, bearing in mind that claims to be God or Jesus have lost their novelty when they are made by practically every drunk, drug addict or schizophrenic. There's an idea I'll submit to him for his New Year's Resolutions; Think up some more creative ways to keep a grip on your dwindling followers by re-asserting your godhood and absolute control over their lives. If in doubt, hire a good PR consultant.

Happy Holidays. :-)

  • As a former president of a Sathya Sai Baba Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, I can only say "ditto" to all that is said here. Even a rank amateur who wishes to find out the truth about this baba will have no trouble finding a veritable cornucopia of lies, fabrications, coverups of horrendous crimes committed by SSB--all rationalized away by his cadres of spin meisters, apologists and the very top-ranked office holders in the Sai Organization. The BBC did a brilliant job of exposing the machinations of the baba and his top attack dog, Dr. Michael Goldstein living in California. "The Secret Swami" was viewed in many countries of the world and anyone can check into their (BBC) findings, which all began with a document called "The Findings," compiled and edited by former devotees of this baba. The devotees say they are sticking to SSB because of their personal experiences with him--or by him they would surmise. Well, I have had personal experiences in connection with SSB but that makes him no less a criminal than he is, no less a sexually molesting predator, no less a pedophile, no less a lying, fabricating and plagiarizing wannabe Avatar, no less the perpetrator of several murders committed at his behest at his ashram and elsewhere, no less the Al Capone of India by either buying off any investigations by law enforcement officials into his nefarious doings, or by fear via intimidation. Yes, I affirm this "Sai Baba EXPOSED" statement to the fullest.
Dave Lyons, former president of the Sathya Sai Baba Center of Greater New Orleans (1995-2000), and devotee from 1981-2000.

  • Joel, people have lodged police complaints against Sai Baba. Jens Sethi filed a complaint in his home country as have other molestees around the world. Alaya Rahm filed a court case which he later dismissed.

Anyway, how would you exercise intellectual honesty and apply the full text of Revelations to Sai Baba, if you claim his advent is predicted in a part of it?

By Blogger Swami Saiexposedananda, at 04 January, 2007 03:09

  • Invigilator says: 'The Findings' by David Bailey and other statements by him on the internet at http://saibaba-invigilator.blogspot.com/

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 06 January, 2007 13:20

  • Joel, as I mentioned, the Alaya Rahm case was self-dismissed because it was discovered that the Sai Organisation was an unsueable entity. Please read this.

As for the teachings, I don't believe that they answered my question: Shouldn't Sai devotees exhibit intellectual honesty and apply/explain the entirety of Revelations 19 to Sai baba, if they regard him as the Rider on the White Horse predicted therein?

Thanks, but I know all of that about drama, leela etc. because I am familiar with Vedanta, but I find there to be a fatal flaw in your premise. You state that he can walk if he wants to doesn't say anything about whether he can walk or not. You regard him as God and thus having all powers, others do not. To the rest of the world he is an old man whose movements have now been restricted to a wheelchair.

Come on now, Joel, you can't seriously believe that his death is pre-planned? How do you know? He could have mentioned any figure and his devotees would have believed it. For instance, did you know that he originally wanted to "take samadhi" in 1943?

By Blogger Swami Saiexposedananda, at 12 January, 2007 03:50

  • Thanks Joel, for your response. Here's my reply to several of your (quoted) points:

"He did not mention just any figure. He said 96 would be the age He passes away in front a huge crowd and gathering. so, how is it possible for a human to predict his own death, not knowing if He might pass away earlier?"

Actually, where did you get that specific information about passing away in front of a large gathering? This is the first time I have ever heard such a claim, when I have printed sources (as well as the statement of older devotees) that testified that Sai Baba said that he would die by walking straight into the Chitravathi river. It's not so simple is it? Especially when we know that for each story about Sai Baba, a number of contrasting and conflicting versions also exist.

As for the age of 96, there are also figures of 95 floating around even in official Sai Baba literature. Some people try to get around this by claiming stuff about how Indian people consider the actual date of birth as the "first birthday" in contrast to the Western standard of the first birthday being a year after the date of birth. So this has made it possible to have a figure of 95 or 96. By the way I'm an Indian and I know of no such custom.

Also, Erlendur Haraldsson's famous book states that he said he will pass away at age 92, how to explain this? Has he made a mistake? If so, where is the proof? Has anyone made a mistake? If so, why? Why are people so careless with the "Avatar's" words on such an astounding issue like the prediction of his own death? Remember how Jesus gave vague indications about his upcoming trial and crucifixions? Sai Baba has gone one better and revealed the age of his death, yet no one seems to be very clear about it and different ages are passed around. How can anyone make sense of all this?

"and He has also said that he will reborn as Prema Sai. photos of Him has already been circualted, and some materializations of rings are slowly starting to take the facial features of Prema Sai with bearded features alike to Jesus Christ."

Isn't that convenient? You would think that different avatars look different and are thus "originals", but the future Prema Sai is supposed to be a carbon-copy of Jesus Christ? You don't think that he has "materialised" a picture of Jesus and said it is Prema Sai?

OK, I'm being facetious here because I know of the rings and pictures you are talking about. Did you know that I was the first person to post one of those pictures on the Internet, by the way? How can anyone verify the truth of these pictures or rings? Has anyone seen the ring? Perhaps the people who have met Hislop have seen the ring, but the ring is now hidden (as it was then, largely) to the wider community and no one can vouch for it's veracity. And this takes us back to square one, how can anyone confirm that this is Prema Sai?

"the thing is, to believe in something beyond our comprehension, faith comes first and then Grace comes."

Voila! It is all a question of faith. Sai devotees believe that he will die at the age of 96 (or 95, or 92) based on their faith. They believe he will reincarnate as Prema Sai based on their faith. It is all an extention of devotees' faith and there is no objective evidence of any of these things until and unless they actually happen.

"sadly, u choose to take revenge against Sai Baba just because you do not see the Love in Him. rather, after listening to false accusations, u have been hoodwinked into believing this stories. which is sad."

Perhaps you are not familiar with my position on Sai Baba: I have been a devotee for over 10 years and saw plenty of "love" in him. I don't wish to blow my own trumpet but I had two interviews with him, in which I saw plenty of those "materialisations" you speak of. I did not leave (or "take revenge") on Sai Baba because of false accusations, but because I figured out for myself that Sai Baba is not telling the truth about himself. One of my biggest problems with Sai Baba is that he claims he's God, which is untrue.

The sexual accusations hardly figure in my apostasy, but you may as well know that I was present in the ashram at the same time as Alaya Rahm and I witnessed for myself the number of interviews he was having on a daily basis, sometimes even twice a day. We now know what happened in those interviews.

You may believe that I have been "hoodwinked" but I haven't. I have explained (in previous articles) in this blog my reasons for leaving him, please take the time to read the previous articles.

"i am hoping that you will realize that even Krishna was accused of having affairs with the Gopis. Even Buddha was accused of leading his young disciples into wrong conduct. but do not be deceived by the stories flying around you. they are but the products on people who have been unable to see the divinity in themselves, to improve themselves. they have taken a measure of revenge, to prove that Sai Baba is no God. but believe me, their efforts are futile."

Quite strong statements there, but yet again you are under the impression that Sai Baba is a genuine teacher who is being falsely accused. Kindly allow me to remind you that even if his innocence was proved, there are still a huge number of major discrepancies surrounding him. Take the subject of this article for example, the rider on the white horse, how does the rest of Revelations 19 apply to him? What about all of the many contradictions in his discourses? How about a critical analysis of his claims to divinity? What is the truth about his date of birth? What is the truth about his claim to be Shirdi Baba's reincarnation? The problems are endless with him and are not restricted to stories of sexual abuse. They are a very serious tip of an iceberg.

"i mean, at least even if they dont believe in Him, at least believe in the teachings of the great sages and take a step towards Liberation. why cant we try and improve ourselves rather than pointing out other people's faults? Om Sai Ram."

And there's yet another point where I have a problem with Sai Baba: one of his major claims is that he has advented for the purposes of "restoring the Vedas" and whatnot, yet his discourses are not the epitome of Vedic thought. Yes, I'm aware of how his speeches have been praised to the skies, but I do not agree with those praises. Sai Baba is a teacher of Advaita Vedanta, although a more correct description would be that he teaches his own slanted version of Advaita. There is much more to the Vedic canon than Advaita and Sai Baba hardly deals with any of it.

Add to that the fact that Advaita itself is heavily criticised by more robust systems of Vedanta and we find that he is defeated before he even started.

I may be getting a little technical here, but please take the time to read the previous articles on this blog and you will see what I mean. In short: he is not a representative of what or who he says he is.

  • Dear Sanjay,
I am Dinakaran. How are you? I want your permission again to post your blog in mine (dinakaran.blogspot.com).

Yes, feel free to take anything you want from my blog.

By Blogger Swami Saiexposedananda, at 05 February, 2007 04:53

  • SSB has been very active recently, unlike this blog, by the way. Performing yagnas, meeting chief ministers and what not.

  • Good for him. :-)

By Blogger Swami Saiexposedananda, at 12 February, 2007 16:41

  • Why are you not write new articles? Have't time?

By Blogger Unknown, at 07 March, 2007 09:33

  • Yeah I'm a bit busy these days but I'll be back with a bang, that's for sure!

By Blogger Swami Saiexposedananda, at 13 March, 2007 02:26

  • There was a video clip that captured the baba red-handed when he materialized a golden chain. Where can we get that clip?

By Blogger Taposik, at 24 March, 2007 07:01

  • Where are you Sanjay? Long time no post. Waiting with baited breath for your latest expose on SSB.

It is always painful to see like-minded people being inactive. :-P

  • Mr No One, there are tons of clips here.

  • 'For instance, did you know that he originally wanted to "take samadhi" in 1943?'

What's this about then? What does that mean to "take samadhi"?

I can't believe I'm still on the fence about all this, even after reading how many articles on how many blogs and sites...that's how deep I'm in...

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11 April, 2008 06:36

  • Sorry one more thing...
Did Jesus never mention anything about a Lamb then??

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 11 April, 2008 06:38

  • Hi there Anon.,

it is a mystery what "take samadhi" means exactly. But Sai Baba's usage of it suggests that he wanted to die in 1943 for some purpose. By "dying" I mean dropping his body if you prefer the spiritual way of looking at things. But by all accounts it seems that he wished to die in 1943, which is what these words imply. It is quite amazing how much is not known about Sai Baba compared to what is known.

As for Jesus, no, according to the Biblical verses available he did not mention a lamb.

It's fine sitting on the fence. I was deeply into Sai Baba like you wouldn't believe. You're free to get in touch with me if you like, and we can have some discussions. You can find my email address on my profile page.

  • When Saibaba went to Tamil Nadu, he associated with Karunanidhi, a known atheist.

Why would a God be on good terms with a God-hater while devotees are suffering in that Indian state, I have no idea.

Isn't he supposed to "paritranaya sadhunam" while "vinasaya ca duskrtam"?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 03 May, 2008 10:14

  • Exactly. ;)

By Blogger Swami Saiexposedananda, at 03 May, 2008 18:37

  • Swami heals the sick, as Jesus did -- not the well -- the atheist is "sick" spiritually. He cannot see God, hear God or touch, taste or feel God in the Universe. So sick. As to inconsistencies in his behavior and speeches... you are trying to lasso the Universe with the weak little thread of the human mind.

  • Also, as to pictures that Sai Baba produces. I have one. It was a Polaroid picture which appeared on his open palm, with two others, fanned out like cards. They slowly materialized, wet and dark. No image. With hand out, they slowly, slowly developed an image on each. Handed to me, it was wet and warm. As it dried out, it had a nice pic of Swami's face. Years later, I was hit by a car. My purse with the pic was lost -- but I was unscathed. Not so much as a bruise! This talisman was there for as long as I needed it. For the moment of injury or death. Then it disappeared. The purse was later found. No money, but other items were all there --- but the pic. Swami is the greatest expression of the God Principle on earth today. I am very grateful to ever have even heard of him. Jai Sai Ram!
